Hannah Read, Trainee Solicitor at Smith Partnership, has been assisting two of our local schools and colleges to provide educational talks about the world of work.
Hannah is a committee member of the Derby Junior Lawyers, and as part of their pledge to help educate young children who live in Derby, has been asked to mentor a group of school students in preparation for the Derby Schools Debate Competition, which is run by the Derby and District Law Society.
The training provider that Hannah was asked to mentor was Littleover Community School. As part of this mentoring, Hannah was asked to attend and listen to the arguments that the children had been preparing. This included debate topics such as smoking, space travel and testing on animals.
The children's enthusiasm was impressive, they were extremely engaged and took on board all comments in order to make their debates stand out in front of a panel of judges. Smith Partnership would like to wish them all the best of luck in the debate competition!
Smith Partnership’s Trainee Solicitors and Paralegals are also involved in the employability program at Derby College. Kate Rich, Amrina Dhami, Aillidh Reid, Lauren Sheffield and Surjeet Bola were delighted to have been given the opportunity to prepare presentations and provide informative guidance for students to apply when writing their CVs.
5 groups of IT diploma students have engaged in an hour long session which included activities to help the students prepare for their next stage of life; in searching for their career and preparing CV’s and cover letters.
We would like to thank Derby College for the opportunity to work with their students and give real life experience in a teaching environment, and look forward to working with them again next year.
