How many points will I get for being on my phone whilst driving?
The fixed endorsement is six points. That can push drivers close to a totting-up ban, so early advice is vital.

I have been summoned to court for speeding, what should I do?
Contact us straight away. In some cases we can deal with matters in writing. In others, the court may require your attendance (for high speeds or relevant history) and consider disqualification. We will prepare your case and present mitigation.

I have been arrested for drink driving, will I lose my licence?
Your licence is at risk only if you plead guilty or are found guilty. Drink-driving carries a mandatory disqualification of at least 12 months if you have no similar convictions within the last 10 years.
It is a common misconception that personal issues can be used to avoid a ban. In limited circumstances, the court can consider ‘special reasons’ not to impose a ban, but these must relate to the circumstances of the offence (for example, a genuine emergency or a very short distance driven with no realistic chance of encountering other road users).

What rights do grandparents have?
Grandparents don’t automatically have parental responsibility, but they can apply for a Child Arrangements Order or Special Guardianship Order, or put themselves forward as carers in public law (care) proceedings.
Childcare
Can you stop an adoption?
Only in limited circumstances. Adoption usually needs consent from all with parental responsibility, or a court order dispensing with consent because the child’s welfare requires it. Challenging a placement order or adoption requires permission and evidence of a significant change in circumstances.

Can grandparents adopt their grandchildren?
Yes, but courts often prefer Special Guardianship Orders, as they avoid the full legal changes adoption brings within the family.

What is a guardian?
A Children’s Guardian is an independent officer appointed by the court to represent a child’s welfare and views. They instruct their own solicitor to advocate for the child.
