Growing awareness: Duo raise £378 for Men’s Health Charity
Two members of the Smith Partnership team have demonstrated their commitment to making a difference by participating in this year's Movember campaign. Raising awareness and vital funding for men's health.
Our John Ellis, Dispute Resolution Solicitor, and Oliver Maxwell, Commercial Real Estate Dispute Associate, have together raised an impressive £378 for Movember, the leading charity changing the face of men's health – with donations still being collected.
Movember is the leading global charity focused on men's health, tackling critical issues including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. The statistics are sobering: men have a life expectancy of 4.5 years less than women, largely for preventable reasons. The vital Movember campaign sparks conversation and spreads awareness, while raising funds for life-changing mental health programmes, medical research, and ground breaking trials.
John talks about why the cause matters so much, "We live in a very stressful time. Men's health, both mentally and physically, is not talked about enough, and it shouldn't be a taboo anymore."
He added: "We've all got things going off in our lives that you won't know about until you start those conversations, and that's why I believe Movember is an amazing catalyst to try and encourage them."
The campaign resonated throughout Smith Partnership, with both participants noting the positive response from colleagues. Oliver talks about his gratitude for the support, “I was blown away with the support from everyone at Smiths. This is my first year taking part, so I was not expecting this level of support, both with donations and general conversations around the campaign.”
Our Managing Partner, James Johnson, spoke about the pair’s efforts, “As a firm, we recognise the critical importance of men's health and breaking down barriers around these conversations. We're all immensely proud of John and Oliver's commitment, and the positive impact they've made both through fundraising and encouraging openness about mental and physical wellbeing”
The donations made will help fund vital work to ensure men live longer, happier, and healthier lives. Anyone wishing to support John and Oliver's efforts can still make a donation, here.
