Leicester law firm raises hundreds for local cancer charity

Our Leicester office has raised £630 for Hope Against Cancer, following staff-led fundraising designed to support local cancer research and trials.

The total was generated through a programme of office initiatives organised by Jade Evershed, Trainee Solicitor, and Emma Symes-Goodman, Paralegal, who helped coordinate fundraising activities and opportunities for the branch to get involved throughout the year.

Across the campaign, the team ran a workplace tuck shop, hosted sweepstakes and staff quizzes, staged a popular bake sale, and volunteered at the Leicester Marathon to support Hope Against Cancer on the day.

Jade said: “Working with Hope Against Cancer has been a really positive way to get everyone involved, and it genuinely feels like team-building as well as fundraising. Whenever we ask people to get stuck in, they do, and that support has been brilliant.

She continues, “The bake sale especially brought everyone together, and it was amazing to see colleagues and visitors coming in from other offices and the wider community to show their support. It created a really friendly, social atmosphere with people you wouldn’t usually see day-to-day.”

“Seeing that kind of enthusiasm for a cause that means something to so many people has made the whole year feel worthwhile.”

Emma also commented: “Sometimes charity fundraising can feel like people are under pressure to donate, but this never felt like that, it is a nice environment with lots of different ways to take part. Having activities like the tuck shop, sweepstakes, quizzes and the bake sale meant people could contribute in small, everyday ways, or get involved in the bigger events if they wanted to.

“From a business perspective, supporting a local charity like this also helps create connections with other local organisations and businesses, which is a real positive. Larger national charities are already widely supported, so it was great to back something close to home and see where the money can make a difference.

“We’re excited to keep the momentum going this year with repeat events and new ideas that bring people together in the community.”

Looking ahead, our Leicester office is planning to build on this momentum with repeat events including another bake sale, sweepstakes and raffles, alongside new fundraising ideas such as a quiz night to bring colleagues together in the community.

Tracey Hallam, Head of Corporate and Community Partnerships added : “We are absolutely delighted that Smith Partnerships have chosen to continue their support for Hope Against Cancer in 2026. The enthusiasm and joy the Smith Partnership team brought to their fundraising in 2025, from cake sales to drumming encouragement at Run Leicester, was simply wonderful.

“The company’s ongoing support for HOPE will allow us to continue to fund world-class local cancer research and care for the benefit of people with cancer and their families in Leicestershire, Rutland and beyond.”

A cheque presentation took place on 9th of March, where the final confirmed donation total was announced to the teams at Smith Partnership and Hope Against Cancer.
