Four New Year Promotions Kick Off 2026

Smith Partnership has started the year by promoting four Associates to Senior Associates, marking a significant investment in talent across our Residential Property, Personal Injury and Criminal Law departments.

Bhakti Parmar climbs the ranks in our Derby Residential Property department, where she has made a significant impact since joining the firm. Qualifying as a solicitor in 2019, Bhakti brings over a decade of conveyancing experience and has developed particular expertise in freehold and leasehold transactions, new builds, and lease extensions.

Commenting on her promotion, Bhakti said: "I'm incredibly grateful to Smith Partnership for the support and opportunities I've been given throughout my time here. The firm has really invested in my development from the start, and I've learned so much from the talented people within the team. I'm looking forward to taking on this new role and helping mentor the next generation of conveyancers coming."

Charlotte Hope's promotion recognises the rapid impact she has made since joining the Personal Injury department, based in our Derby Headquarters in 2022. Charlotte has built a strong reputation for combining technical expertise with empathy and a forward thinking approach, representing clients in public liability cases, employer's liability matters and road traffic accidents.

Charlotte commented, "This promotion means a great deal to me. The support from my colleagues has been brilliant since I joined, which has enabled me to go from Newly Qualified to Senior Associate in 3 years. I've been given the opportunity to work on increasingly complex cases which has really helped me develop. I'm excited to take on more responsibility and give back to the firm that has supported me so much."

Andrea Wilkes has been promoted within the Criminal law team at the firm's Stoke-on-Trent office. With over 20 years' experience since qualifying in 2003, Andrea has established herself as a respected figure in the local courts, particularly in youth and magistrates' proceedings, guiding cases from police station investigations through to court.

Andrea said, "The team in Stoke has been incredibly welcoming, and I’ve been impressed by the firm’s approach to professional development. I’m looking forward to taking on this new role and using my experience to support the team and help shape the future of our Crime practice"

Nick Wenden's promotion marks a significant milestone in his Smith Partnership journey. Starting as a Legal Clerk at our Burton branch in 2008, Nick qualified as a solicitor in 2013 and now assists with some of the firm's most serious criminal cases, from major conspiracies to high-profile Crown Court trials across the UK.

Nick reflected, "My journey from legal clerk to Senior Associate really demonstrates what's possible at Smith Partnership. The firm genuinely invests in people who show commitment and drive, and I've been given incredible opportunities to develop my skills and take on challenging work. I'm incredibly grateful for the support I've received along the way"

Commenting on the promotions, our Managing Partner, James Johnson said, "These appointments reflect our continued investment in the long-term development of our people. Bhakti, Charlotte, Andrea and Nick have each demonstrated exceptional dedication to their clients and unwavering commitment to the firm.”

"We are grateful for everything they have contributed, and we're excited to see how they will shape the future of their respective teams as Senior Associates. Promoting from within remains central to who we are as a firm, and these four individuals exemplify the talent and dedication that drives us forward."

The promotions represent another milestone in Smith Partnership's strategic development as the firm continues to expand its services across Derby, Leicester, Burton-upon-Trent, Stoke-on-Trent and Swadlincote – the wider Staffordshire and East Midlands area – and beyond.
